Reminders

  • Housing is not guaranteed.
  • A campus housing rental agreement lasts through the end of the academic year (June). If you leave your housing before the end of the agreement, you may be subject to a cancellation fee. Rental agreements in the community may last through August 31, and may not allow for cancellation. Check all terms and conditions before making a commitment.
  • If you apply for more than one housing option, accept only one. You will be financially responsible for all agreements you accept.

We strongly urge you to purchase airline tickets AFTER you have obtained your visa and confirmed travel conditions to the US from your home country.  When you do purchase a ticket, purchase a refundable/changeable ticket.

Orientation 

iStart Online Orientation (mandatory) begins 30 days prior to the start date for your term and must be completed by the second week of the term.

Fee: $59 (subject to change) will be billed to your UCLA account (does not apply until iStart orientation program occurs).

  • View your appointment time in MyUCLA. All times are California time. Check for the corresponding time in your location.

  • Space in class fills quickly so be prepared to enroll as soon as your pass time begins.
  • Enrollment appointments are located under the CLASSES tab. Select Enrollments, then select Enrollment Appointment

If the MyUCLA enrollment system indicates that a code/permission to enroll is required:

  • Locate the course in the Schedule of Classes
    • Browse to the courses in your area of study.
    • You can use the “Filter Results” bar for more detailed results.
  • Consult the course details under the section link to determine that you meet all course prerequisites
  • E-mail the academic advisor or instructor to request permission to enroll (consult the listing of department webpages for the undergraduate department advisor contact information).
  • Include information about your academic preparation for any course prerequisites using the prerequisite clearance request form.
Online (definition as used in the Schedule of Classes)
  • Online: Classes will be held at scheduled times with faculty delivering course content using remote communication tools and students in attendance using those tools. Faculty will not record the class.
  • Online - Recorded: Classes will be held at scheduled times with faculty delivering course content using remote communication tools and with students in attendance using those tools. Faculty will record the class and make available those scheduled activities for subsequent use by students. However, students should be aware that faculty may still request their participation during scheduled meeting times.
  • Online - Asynchronous: With the exception of office hours or review sections, there are no pre-scheduled sessions for this class. Lectures and all class content will be available online.

Graduate Students

Graduate students usually register after consultation with the department’s graduate advisor. Check with your host department for registration advising.

  • International Student Orientation fee: $59 (subject to change) will be billed to your UCLA account (does not apply until iStart orientation program occurs).
  • Registrar's Document fee: $50 one-time fee (subject to change) that provides lifetime access to official transcripts, incomplete grade removal, and academic verifications.   
  • UCSA (UC Student Association) fee: $7;  this fee is not mandatory, and you may opt-out (choose to not participate) before the deadline.

Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP)

You will automatically be enrolled in your host university health insurance plan. No action is required.

Deadline

  • Fall: As soon as possible but no later than October 1, 2024. Enrollment holds will be placed November 1, 2024 for non-compliance.
  • Winter: January 1, 2025. Enrollment holds will be placed February 1, 2025 for non-compliance.

Waiving SHIP

To waive SHIP, you must apply for waiver by submitting documentation of comparable health insurance. Waiver must be approved by your host UC.

If you are waiving SHIP, consider adding BruinCare for access to Ashe services on campus.
